Uztelecom’s subscriber base exceeds 7mn mark
Uzbekistan’s national operator Uztelecom has seen its mobile subscriber base exceed the seven million mark. The operator provides mobile services under the Uzmobile brand.
In 2020, Uztelecom updated and modernised its networks and transferred all base stations to 4G. It also launched more than 600 base stations throughout the country.
The operator obtains most of its revenues from international telecom operators.
The number of internet users in Uzbekistan as
of December stood at 22.1mn. The level of mobile coverage of localities nationwide was 97%, with mobile internet coverage reaching 87% of Uzbek territory.
Some 70% of schools and 78% of health facilities in Uzbekistan have been connected to the internet.
Vodafone Albania plans €100mn infrastructure investments after AbCom merger
Vodafone Albania plans to invest around €100mn in upgrading its existing fixed infrastructure,
the company said after receiving approval for its planned merger with cable operator AbCom.
The merger with AbCom – agreed in February 2020 and now approved by the Albanian competition authorities – brings Vodafone Albania into the
fixed line market, and “will develop the electronic communication market and will boost competition in the fixed market, improving the quality of services and customer experience,” the company said in a press release.
Meanwhile, the €100mn worth of investments Vodafone Albania is planning will help it meet customer demand at a time when the internet is becoming a crucial service.
To date, Vodafone has invested almost €2bn in Albania, including in infrastructure, spectrum, regulatory fees, distribution channels and human resources etc.
