The ceremony of pouring concrete at the second power unit of the El-Dabaa nuclear power plant (NPP) in Egypt took place on Novemeber 20, Alexander Korchagin, senior vice-president of Atomstroyexport engineering division of Russia’s civilian nuclear power corporation Rosatom, told TASS on Saturday. The El-Dabaa nuclear power plant is the first nuclear power station in Egypt. It will be constructed in the city of El-Dabaa in the Matrouh Governorate on the Mediterranean coast, roughly 300 km northwest of Cairo. The El-Dabaa nuclear power plant will consist of 4 units with a generating capacity equivalent to 1200 MW per unit using generation III+ VVER-1200 reactors (pressurized water reactors). This is the most advanced technology to date and it has already been successfully implemented and operated in Russia and abroad, Rosatom said.

Russia’s combined production of metals and metals products shrank by 2.4% on the year in October, the Federal State Statistics Service said in a statement on November 23. In January–October, the metals output gained 0.1%, the service said. The production of cast iron went down by 9.2% on the year to 4.22mn tonnes in October, while the output of unalloyed steel fell by 16% to 4.47mn tonnes, of alloyed steel by 0.7% to 1.27mn tonnes, of hot-rolled metals by 16.5% to 1.55mn tonnes, and of long-steel products by 6.3% to 1.40mn tonnes, while the output of primary aluminum increased by 26%. In January–October, the output of cast iron went down by 3.5% on the year to 43.05mn tonnes, of unalloyed steel by 9.6% to 46.83mn tonnes, of hot rolled metals by 10.4% to 15.32mn tonnes, and of long steel products by 2.6%, while production of alloyed steel increased by 4.6% to 13.27mn tonnes, and of primary aluminum by 16.5%.
