Russia’s contribution to the Spanish gas system in 2023 outperformed the contribution of Nigeria, which was the third main market for Spain. The year of 2023 will end with Spain receiving more Russian gas than the country has imported in any other year in its history, El Mundo said.
Enagas said earlier that Russia became the third largest exporter of gas to Spain in January–October. Its exports of liquefied natural gas rose to 60.8 gigawatts per hour in the period from 42.45 gigawatts per hour in the same period of 2022, and accounted for 18.1% of Spain’s total gas consumption.

The EU still imports 50% of Russian LNG but is preparing to eliminate this dependence. Unlike the US, the EU has not yet imposed any sanctions on liquefied gas imports. As a result, the EU remains the destination for 50% of Russian LNG exports. From December 2022 to October 2023, half of Russian LNG exports, worth €8.3B, were directed to the EU market.
Russia secured the top position among gas suppliers to Spain in June 2023, a substantial shift from the previous year when Russia held the fourth position in gas supplies to the country, following the United States, Algeria, and Nigeria.
Data provided by the Spanish energy company Enagas reveals that Russia secured the third position in liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies to Spain for the year 2023. Spain imported a total of 67,209 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of LNG from Russia between January and November 2023. This volume represents a significant increase of 39% compared to the 48,406 GWh imported during the same period in 2022.
Throughout the year 2023, Russia stood as the third-largest supplier of gas to Spain, trailing behind Algeria and the United States. In November 2023 alone, Spain received 6,439 GWh of LNG from Russia, marking a rise from the 5,953 GWh received in November 2022.

Russian automaker AvtoVAZ is expecting sales to double in 2023 to approximately 350,000 vehicles, according to CEO Maxim Sokolov speaking at the Russia Calling! investment forum on December 8. Lada's sales in Russia for the year 2022 amounted to 188,600 vehicles.
Sales of new cars in Russia soared by 59% in January-November 2023 y/y to 1.17mn units, the Industry and Trade Ministry said, citing data from the Passport Industrial Consulting firm. "In January-November 2023, 1,174,575 new cars (up to three years) were sold on the territory of the Russian
