2.9 Albania seizes tanker suspected of sanctions busting Russian oil delivery, as Russian shipbourne exports soar
The Grace Felix oil tanker, flying the Liberian flag, was seized by authorities on February 20, suspected of breaking sanctions by smuggling oil out of the country, as Russia’s shipbourne oil exports soared.
The ship was due to unload its fuel at Porto Romano, the industrial port located in the Porto Romano area of Durres in Albania when officers swooped and impounded the ship. Police intelligence suspected the ship was illegally transporting Russian oil after the certificate of origin for the cargo was found to be missing.
Investigators say the oil on Grace Felix was ordered by AV International Group, an Albanian LNG trader owned by local businessman Piro Baren, the Albanian Top Channel TV reported.
