highlighted a partisan divide in these perceptions, with a majority of Republicans, 67%, pinpointing China as the main enemy, contrasted by 18% of Democrats. Conversely, Russia is deemed a greater threat by 48% of Democrats, compared to a mere 10% of Republicans. Furthermore, the poll disclosed that Russia and North Korea are the nations receiving the lowest approval ratings from Americans, at 8% and 9% respectively. At the same time Canada and Japan each garnered high approval ratings of 83%. Concerns over Iran are on the rise, now at 9%, up from 2% the previous year. North Korea's position as the main enemy has slightly declined to 4%, down by 3 percentage points from 2023. Some 5% of respondents view the United States itself as its own greatest threat, marking a 4% increase from the previous year and the highest level since 2005. Israel and Ukraine are also seen as the main threats by 2% of those surveyed, with the Middle East and Iraq each cited by 1% of participants.
Most Germans are not ready to fight in case of a direct attack on Germany, says the poll by Focus-online. The question was formulated as follows: "Let’s presume Germany was attacked militarily. Would you actively participate to protect [the country]?" Only 32% of respondents said they are ready to take up arms. Meanwhile, 57% rejected such option, while 11% were undecided. The poll also revealed that only 23% of respondents are ready to take up arms in Eastern regions of Germany (69% are not), while in the West, 35% of respondents are ready to fight (versus 54%). The poll covered about 5,000 people.
