Latvian government approves list of banned agricultural goods from Russia, Belarus. The Latvian government on March 5 approved a list of Russian and Belarusian agricultural and food products that will be banned from importing into the country since March 8.
Trade between Russia and Japan in February decreased by 16.5% compared to the same period last year, TASS writes , citing data from the Japanese Ministry of Finance. Last month, trade turnover amounted to 104.1bn yen (about $690mn as of March 21, 2024). Imports from the Russian Federation into the country decreased by 10.2%, exports from Japan to Russia fell by 33.6%. The trend may be associated with a reduction in supplies of Russian energy resources and a fall in exports from Japan, primarily cars, the agency writes. Last year, trade turnover between Russia and Japan decreased by 45.3%, to 1.43 trillion yen. Then the main positions for reducing imports from Russia were oil (reduced by 94.8%), coal (by 70.2%), LNG (by 10.7%), fruits (by 96.7%), vegetables (by 48 .9%), etc.
Trade turnover between Russia and Tajikistan increased in January-February 2024 by 21% y/y in in monetary terms and exceeded $285.6mn, the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan reported.
According to the agency’s report, which is available to TASS, imports from Russia to Tajikistan during this period amounted to $273.2mn, exports to Russia totaled $12.4mn. Among the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Russia ranked first in terms of trade volume with Tajikistan. Kazakhstan ranked second with trade turnover of about $214.8mn, having decreased in annual terms by about 5%.
In January and February, Tajikistan also observed a significant increase in trade turnover with Uzbekistan - about $105.8mn, which is 1.8 times more than the same period in 2023, and Belarus - $26.4mn (an increase of 2.2 times in annual terms).
Among all the countries with which Tajikistan traded, Russia ranked second after China. In the reporting period trade between Tajikistan and China amounted to $286.6mn, an increase of 41.5%. In general, Tajikistan’s trade in the first two months of this year with all countries exceeded $1.5bn, which is 47.5% more than the same period last year.
At the end of 2023, Tajikistan’s trade turnover with other countries amounted to more than $8.3bn, which became an all-time high. Last year, Russia became the main trading partner of the republic - trade turnover increased by 2.5%, amounting to $1.8bn, which is also a record figure.
Armenian exports to Russia rise despite political tensions. Bilateral trade between Russia and Armenia has flourished since 2022, providing ground for the accusations of alleged sanctions circumvention, media outlet Euroactiv reported on March 28.
