that while the company, using its own resources, began to build a substation that will allow increasing the capacity. Sturen added that the new sites are not far from the already developed ones. Sturen said that he considers the wind farm business more sustainable than solar power plants, which are more popular among investors due to a higher tariff and lower investment. "The wind is more sustainable: it is more complicated, but it fits better with the energy system and is better for the consumer," he underlined.
Ukraine's leading coal and power holding DTEK produced 2.18mn tonnes of hard coal in August 2018 (or 70.3 tonnes per day), according to calculations published by Kyiv-based brokerage Concorde Capital on September 6. This is a monthly record for the holding, 12.5% more m/m, 23.2% more y/y, but 0.2% less than plan. In January-August, the holding’s coal mining reached 15.54mn tonnes, which is 2.5% more y/y, but 3.3% below plan. Concorde's Alexander Paraschiy believes that the good news is that DTEK’s monthly coal output nearly reached the planned level in August, after an 11% underperformance a month ago. "This confirms our view that DTEK will underperform its 24.6mn tonnes production plan for 2018 by about 1-1.2mn tonnes, meaning it won’t be self-sufficient in hard steam coal this year."
American private equity fund SigmaBleyzer is more than doubling its new Ukraine energy fund, to $250mn, SigmaBleyzer President Michael Bleyzer tells Interfax-Ukraine. Norway's NBT is going to build a $450mn complex of wind farms with a total capacity of 250 MW in Ukraine's Kherson region . An agreement between NBT and the Ukrainian government was signed on September 6 in Kyiv. According to Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, the wind farm would satisfy almost the half of the demand for electricity in the Kherson region. Oslo-based NBT develops wind farms in emerging markets. The company has offices in Oslo alongside Limassol, Beijing, Singapore, Kyiv and Karachi. NBT owns 49% of the 100 MW Linxi wind farm in Inner Mongolia, China. The wind farm is operated in a joint venture with Datang, one of China’s leading utilities. According to the company's marketing information, NBT acquired Syvashenergoprom in Kherson, Ukraine in April 2018. The plan is to construct a wind farm with installed capacity in the range of 250-330 MW, according to the company's documents, Interfax news agency reported on September 6.
