4.4.1 Unemployment, income dynamics
Unemployment rate in Georgia falls to 18% in Q2
The unemployment in Georgia fell by 4 percentage points y/y in Q2. According to the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat) data, unemployment in Georgia stands at 18%.
The number of hired employed increased by over 4.4%, reaching 867,900 individuals, while the number of self-employed increased by around 5% and equalled 401,200. In Q2, 2022, the number of unemployed decreased by 18%, equalling 281,600.
According to Geostat: "The labour force participation rate in urban settlements decreased by 1.6pp, while it increased by 2.3pp in rural settlements compared to the previous year. The employment rate increased in urban settlements by 0.9pp as well as in rural areas by 3.7pp and equalled 42.8 and 41.4% respectively."
The unemployment rate in Georgia in 2021 increased by 2.1% compared to 2020 and amounted to 20.6% according to the data Geostat.
