Hungarian Finance Minister Mihaly Varga, on behalf of the country, spoke out against the adoption by the European Council of legislative amendments that would allow Ukraine to receive EUR18bn of macro-financial assistance plus (MFA+) in 2023. "Hungary is against the amendment to the financial legislation," he said in Brussels on Tuesday at a meeting of the Council for Economic and Financial Affairs.
NATO funds from multiple countries may provide Ukraine with $3.4B intended for Afghanistan. Ukraine may receive additional funds as a result of the redistribution of the fund created by NATO countries to support the Afghan army. As Politico writes, NATO countries are ready to consider redistributing the $3.4B in this trust fund. These funds are expected to help Ukraine amid high inflation and rising energy prices in Europe and ease internal tensions within NATO at a crucial stage of the war. The fund is frozen, but the alliance is working on a mechanism to return or redirect the funds. However, each country must decide the fate of the money itself. Some NATO countries are considering using part or all of these funds for Ukraine.
As a result of Russia's armed aggression, Ukraine's land resources have suffered UAH 448.9B in damages. "The state co-inspection recorded that as of November 30, 2022, as a result of armed aggression, 291,826,950 m2 were polluted and 8,099,793,440 m2 of Ukrainian lands were littered with debris, the amount of damage is UAH448.9B ($12B)," the message says. In addition, due to the war, hundreds of hectares of Ukraine’s land fund are littered with waste, contaminated with harmful substances that were released through the detonation of explosives, causing damage to the topsoil. These factors led to the damage of agricultural lands, the impossibility of carrying out sowing operations, and, as a result, to the absence of a harvest on the lands that were disturbed due to military aggression.
