Gas in Europe has been getting cheaper since August 2022, the price decline accelerated in December and continued after the end of the heating season (ended on April 6). On May 10, 2023, gas in the European market, according to the ICE exchange, for the first time since July 2021, cost less than $400 per 1,000 cubic metres. On May 18, quotes fell below $350, and on May 25 they fell below $300 for the first time since January 2021. By August 8, prices began to rise: September TTF futures traded in the range of $339–357 per 1,000 cubic metres.
9.1.2 Automotive sector news
Based on data from automakers and official importers, sales in July 2023 increased by 63% or 20,419 units compared to July 2022 and amounted to 52 832 cars, according to the AEB Automobile Manufacturers Committee,
At the same time, according to information provided by PPC JSC on sales of new vehicles based on data on their transfer to owners, July 2023 was marked by an increase in sales by 144,7%, or by 59 340 units compared to July 2022, and amounted to 100 343 cars. In January - July the market grew by 22,8%.
Alexey Kalitsev, Chairman of the Automobile Manufacturers Committee, comments: “The overall market dynamics confirms the industry forecast we announced last month that the market may reach 1mn of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles sold by the end of 2023. We will monitor how the increase in the disposal fee rate, which came into force on August 1, will affect the further development of the market.”

The sales of new cars in Russia almost tripled on the year to 95,654 vehicles in July, research agency Autostat said in a statement on August 7 citing data of the system of digital car passports. In January–July, sales of new cars increased by 28.2% on the year to 497,230. The sales of Lada cars made by Russian largest carmaker AvtoVAZ more than doubled on the year to 27,400 in July. The sales of Chinese cars also skyrocketed with the amount of sold Chery cars more than quadrupling to 10,700, of Geely cars almost quadrupling to 8,800, of Haval cars quadrupling to 8,500, and of Changun cars jumping by 30 times to 5,200. In the first six months of the year, Lada sales surged by 93.8% to 161,900, sales of Chery almost quadrupled to 57,900 cars, of Geely almost quadrupled to 41,500 cars, of Haval tripled to 47,100, and of Changan jumped by almost 11 times to 14,000. At the same time, sales of Kia, Hyundai, and Toyota cars plummeted by 55.8%, 56.4%, and 42.4%, respectively, in the period.
