Number of Czechs using online banking services trebled in past decade
The number of Czechs using online banking ser- vices has trebled in the past decade, rising from 12% in 2008 to 57% in 2017, the EU statistical arm Eurostat reported.
The Czech economy is becoming increasingly cashless, along with the wider European trend. Among EU member states, internet banking is most common in Denmark, where it is used by 90% of people aged 16 to 74, and the Netherlands with 89%, followed by Scandinavian countries. The lowest numbers of internet banking users were registered in Bulgaria (5%) and Romania (7%), reports Radio Prague.
Online banking is growing fast in Czechia with the Republic rising from the 20-24th spot in 2007 to the 12-13th spot in 2017, and surpassing Germany in the process with 56% of internet banking users.
According to Eurostat data, internet banking is particularly popular among 25 to 34 year-olds, with 68% using it. The use of internet banking tends to increase in line with the education level of the users, Radio Prague added.
There are currently 8mn bank clients in the Czech Republic who have access to internet banking, but only about half use it on regular terms.
