Washington is keen to build up its strength and allies in the Pacific regions ahead of a potential clash with China over Taiwan. Cenusa suggests that India's military cooperation is becoming a critical component of this contingency planning.
India is the world's biggest arms importer and moving slowly turning to the US as Delhi also does not want to see a conflict in its backyard of the Indo-Pacific region. In this, India has more in common with the US than China due to a long-standing border conflict with China on their joint Himalayan frontier since 2020.
