As of November 2024, 22,557 retail outlets in eight main retail sectors operated under the brands of the 110 members of the Ukrainian Retailers Association. The number of stores grew by 2,279 in the first 10 months of the year. At the same time, 731 retail outlets were closed for various reasons. The net increase is 1,548 retail outlets. Three retail sectors demonstrated the greatest network expansion. In first place is the retail pharmaceutical sector, which accounted for 43% of all new retail facilities, with 977 new locations opened in January-October. Another 25% comes from non-food retail, including Drogerie and one-dollar-store chains. This retail sector expanded by 578 stores. Grocery retail closes out the top three with a 17% share of all openings. The largest number of stores is concentrated in Kyiv and the region with 5,420 (+592 stores). In total, more than a hundred new retail facilities have appeared in six regions, including Kyiv, Dnipro, Lviv, Odesa, Kharkiv and Khmelnytskyi.
The international fast-food restaurant chain continues opening new establishments in Ukraine. The first McDonald’s restaurant opened in Kovel, Volyn, on the international highway M07 "Kyiv-Kovel-Yagodyn", which leads to the border with Poland. It became the 19th establishment to have been opened during the full-scale War.
New mega shopping malls and stores are being built and opened in Ukraine. Iryna Koval, commercial director of building development, which manages several retail real estate properties throughout Ukraine, said that their new facility in Chernivtsi, Bukovyna Mall, will be the largest shopping mall in the region. Its total area will initially be 42,000 square metres, and the retail area will be 35,000 square metres. The preliminary opening date is November 2025. The shopping mall is expected to have 18,000-20,000 visitors at weekends and 12,000-14,000 customers on weekdays. The shopping mall's anchor stores will be a Fozzy C&C wholesale hypermarket, a multiplex cinema, and the Fly Kids children's entertainment centre. It is also planned to site brands such as Sinsay, LC Waikiki, New Yorker, H&M, Half Price, Comfy, Foxtrot, Eva Beauty Premium and Puma in the new mall. As well, the 25th store of the MBM My Home chain recently opened in the Sakura Park shopping centre in Kamianets-Podilskyi. This is the 12th store that the retailer has opened this year.
