Albania awards 35-year concession for Kukes airport to Dutch-Albanian tie-up
Serbia to sign €230mn deal with Russia’s RZD on railway upgrade projects
The Albanian Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy has awarded a concession to a consortium of Dutch company NACO and local firms Global Technical Mechanics and Bami to operate Kukes airport, which is currently out of operation.
Kukes airport will offer low-cost flights and will be the second operational airport in the country. The new airport is expected to contribute to the development of one of Albania’s poorest regions.
The government of Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama promised that Kukes airport will be made operational and new airports would be built in the country after the exclusive rights over international flights held by Tirana airport were removed in 2016. The conces- sion, awarded on January 11, was given for a period of 35 years.
Serbia’s railway infrastructure company and Russia’s RZD Interna- tional will sign a contract worth €230mn for three railway upgrade projects during the visit of President Vladimir Putin to Belgrade, the Serbian government said in a statement on January 15.
RZD International, a subsidiary of the Russian state-owned railways operator, is already working on several projects in Serbia.
The new deal is expected to concren the design and implementa- tion of three projects - the electrification of the Stara Pazova - Novi Sad railway section, construction of a modern dispatch centre, as well as continuing with the overhaul of the section from Valjevo to Uzice, part of the railway line linking Belgrade to the Montenegrin port of Bar.
Khatam al-Anbia Construction Headquarters, controlled by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), has been awarded a contract to build 250 kilometres (155 miles) of new metro lines in several cities around Iran, Bloomberg’s Tehran bureau has reported.
The engineering firm, also known as Khatam GHORB, is benefiting from the exodus of foreign companies from the Islamic Republic in the face of the sanctions assault commenced by Washington last year after Donald Trump walked out of the Iran nuclear deal. It is one of the richest companies in Iran, often being awarded multiple contracts across several sectors.
