     Turkey’s government hiked the country's monthly net minimum wage by 30% to Turkish lira (TRY) 5,500 ($316), effective as of July 1.
As a result, the minimum cost to the employer, including taxes and other commissions and fees, has risen 29% to TRY7,603.
Around half of Turkey’s labour force earns the minimum wage.
In January, the government hiked the net minimum wage by 50% to TRY4,250.
Turkey is in a wage-price spiral although wage hikes remain below the official and actual inflation figures.
The poverty threshold for a four-person household stood at TRY20,818 per month as of June (up 117% y/y from TRY9,581 in June 2021), according to a monthly survey by the yellow labour union Turk-Is.
The hunger threshold (minimum food expenditure for a four-person family) stood at TRY6,391 (up 117% y/y) in the month.
The minimum cost of living for a single person was TRY8,313.
