Journalists in three towns in Bosnia & Herzegovina protested on August 28 after their colleague Vladimir Kovacevic was brutally attacked in front of his home. The protesters demanded an end to violence against journalists.
Kovacevic was beaten by unknown assailants shortly after he reported on protests seeking justice for David Dragicevic, a 21- year old man who was found dead in the river Crkvena in March. Dragicevic’s family have been campaigning for months to have his death properly investigated, and have led daily protests in Banja Luka. With elections approaching in October, there are fears politicians will capitalise on the tragedy, which has become an emotive issue in Bosnia.
Police are investigating the attack on Kovacevic, a reporter at the local BN TV, one of the main TV station in Bosnia’s Republika Srpska, as a suspected murder attempt.
The work of Bulgaria’s company register was fully restored on August 27 after its collapse 17 days earlier – the longest period it has not been operational since its creation, the Registry Agency said.
The system stopped working on August 10 and, according to the Bulgarian authorities, the reason for its collapse was that several computer disks had crashed for an unknown reason.
While the company register was offline, local companies were unable to comply with the legal requirement to make public decisions and documents that concern traders and foreign trading branches.
