2.3 Trabzon Port to transit monthly 50,000 tonnes of Russian coal
Trabzon Liman (TLMAN), the operator of Trabzon Port on Turkey’s Black Sea coast, has signed an agreement with Russia-based Donsib Export Limited Liability Company to provide warehousing and handling services for 50,000 tonnes of coal per month, Trabzon Liman said on September 1.
Trabzon Liman will store the coal in the port area and will reload it on to ships under a transit trade regime. The company will receive $11 per tonne for services.
The contract covers the period between September 1, 2022 and August 31, 2023. It can be extended for one year.
Last week, S&P Global reported that Turkey, China and India were among beneficiaries of discounted Russian coal.
In 2003, Albayrak Group won the privatisation tender to operate Trabzon Port for 30 years with a $22mn bid.
In 2018, the group sold a 30% stake in Trabzon Liman for a consideration of Turkish lira (TRY) 98mn ($26mn) via an initial public offering (IPO) at Borsa Istanbul.
Russian e-commerce firm Ozon (Nasdaq/OZON) said on August 30 that it is to open a local office in Turkey with the aim of making it simpler for Russian shoppers to buy cross-border goods directly from Turkish sellers on its platform.
“In the first half of 2022, the number of sellers from Turkey doubled year-on-year, while goods turnover from Turkey to Russia tripled," Ozon said.
Logistics operator Ruscon, a unit of Delo Group, has launched a new multimodal service for joint cargo delivery running from Turkey to Russian destinations via the Russian Black Sea port of Novorossiysk, Ruscon said on September 2.
Ruscon currently provides cargo unloading to Russia in any part of Turkey.
The cargo is consolidated in Istanbul at Ruscon 's warehouse. The container is then formed and delivered by vessel to Novorossiysk. The cargo is handled at the NUTEP Container Terminal operated by DeloPorts.
It is possible to reload and deliver cargo in Novorossiysk on Ruscon 's own railway services and transit by car to any part of Russia.
“Ruscon launched first mile delivery for its clients in another foreign country, implementing Israel, India, China and others. The minimal batch accepted in Turkey is only 100 kg, allowing small businesses, private entrepreneurs, and individuals to actively use our service,” Andrey Chernyshev, vice president of Ruscon said.
Turkey’s exports to Russia jumped to a record high of $739mn in August, state-run news service Anadolu Agency reported on September 9.
In the month, Russia became the sixth most important destination for Turkish exports after Germany, the US, UK, Iraq and Italy.
