Czechia has sent first 50,000 shells to Ukraine, minister says. A total of 50,000 shells are the first batch of 180,000 rounds of ammunition financed by Germany, Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala said.
The European Union has accelerated its production of projectiles and will match Russia's production capacity in 2025, EU Internal Market Commissioner Thierry Breton said in an interview with French news outlet La Tribune on June 14. The performance of the European defence industry has been lackluster, as the EU failed on its promise to deliver 1mn artillery shells between March 2023 and 2024. After supplying only about half of the promised rounds, Brussels shifted the deadline to the end of this year. "By the end of this year, the EU plans to reach the level of 1.7mn projectiles per year, and in 2025 to match the production capacity of Russia, that is, to produce 2.5mn projectiles per year," Breton said.
Germany plans to order additional 200,000 artillery shells from Rheinmetall, Reuters says. Berlin intends to order 200,000 more artillery shells from Rheinmetall, a German arms manufacturer, than originally planned, Reuters reported on June 4, citing an official letter it had obtained.
IFU to provide Ukraine with 152 mm shells worth $376 million. The Dutch Defense Ministry announced it will contribute to the IFU's initiative, but it has not revealed the number of shells to be delivered due to security concerns.
Ukraine may receive up to 100,000 shells in June under Prague-led initiative, Czech official says. To provide Ukraine with 1.5 million of shells this year, 1.7 billion euros ($1.8 billion) will be needed, said Tomas Kopecny, the Czech envoy for Ukraine's reconstruction.
