At the same time, in the case of special shutdown schedules, which are necessary to prevent a systemic breakdown in the unified energy system due to aggression from the Russian Federation, the supply of imported electricity to consumers may stop.

  9.1.10 Renewables sector news
Ukrainian wind farms lost more than €550mn due to war. Losses of wind farms from destruction, damage, or equipment theft by Russian invaders have exceeded €50mn, and more than €500mn were lost due to forced downtime, said Deputy Minister of Energy Yaroslav Demchenkov. He cited data stating that as of February 24, 2022, the total installed capacity of Ukrainian wind power plants (excluding the temporarily occupied territories of Donbas and Crimea) amounted to 1.67 GW, as well as two nuclear power units. However, due to the war, almost all wind power plants in the Kherson, Zaporizhzhya, and Mykolaiv regions have been out of reach at the frontline or in occupied zones since the first days. At the same time, as of today, 80% of wind generation is disabled or captured, and projects for constructing 11 land-based wind farms with a total capacity of almost 1 GW have been put on hold due to the war.
Ukraine will start the construction of new power units based on American AR1000 technology. The government of Ukraine has decided to begin the development of technical documentation for a new type of reactor that has never been built in Ukraine. According to Ukraine Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko, Ukraine has ended the era of atomic energy generation based on Soviet technology. The approximate term of completion of the construction and start-up of the two power units at the Khmelnytskyi NPP is 2030-2032, although the course of hostilities may affect the timeline. The cost of one power unit is estimated at $5B. Westinghouse's AR1000 reactor is an III+ generation reactor with significant advantages compared to the Soviet VVER-1000, 13 of which are in Ukraine today, especially with regard to safety, technical and economic indicators.
9.1.11 Metallurgy & mining sector news
Ukrainian mining and metallurgical enterprises operate at only 15-20% capacity. According to Ukrmetallurgprom, problems in the industry began in 2014, when Ukraine lost industrial enterprises in the east due to the Russian occupation of the region. It forced the industry to reroute logistics. However, the industry suffered a devastating blow in February 2022 with the start of the Russian invasion. The production decrease started in the first days of the war because many metallurgical enterprises were in areas of active hostilities: Mariupol, Zaporizhzhia, and Kryvyi Rih. Since the industry has always been export-oriented, its work is greatly influenced by the global economic crisis. Prices on global markets began to fall, and logistics costs have increased four to five times since the beginning of the war. In addition to the production cost increase, it is impossible to deliver products to customers due to the seaport
