consumed 1.1bn tonnes (40%). It is also noted that the BRICS countries account for 348mn tonnes of wheat harvest per year (44% of world production), with consumption – 323mn tonnes (41%). Corn production reaches 482mn tonnes (39% of world production), and consumption – 442mn tonnes (37%). Egypt, Iran, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Ethiopia all joined BRICS this year.
The fish catch in Russia had an uptick by 1% year on year in the first half of 2024 and was over 2.52mn metric tonnes, the Federal Agency for Fisheries said. "By July 3, 2024, according to data of the sectoral monitoring system of the Federal Agency for Fisheries, the catch by all Russian users exceeded 2.52mn metric tonnes - 1% higher than the 2023 level in the like period," the agency said. The fish catch totaled 1.9mn metric tonnes in the Far Eastern basin, 268,300 metric tonnes in the Northern basin, 49,000 metric tonnes in the Western basin, 16,000 metric tonnes in the Azov-Black Sea basin, and 46,000 metric tonnes in the Volga-Caspian basin. The Russian fleet caught over 229,000 metric tonnes in exclusive economic zones of foreign countries, convention areas and the open part of the World Ocean.
Financing of the federal project on the development of viticulture and wine-making in Russia will amount to more than 4bn rubles ($44.75mn) in 2024, Deputy Director of the Department of Food and Processing Industry of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia Irina Fedina said. "As far as state support measures are concerned, we are implementing a separate federal project within the framework of the State Program for the Development of Agriculture for the third year in a row. It includes all the main state support measures aimed at viticulture and winemaking. For the second year in a row, our funding has reached 3.5bn rubles - this is federal funding and also co-financing from the regions. The total amount of funding for this sector is more than 4bn rubles," Fedina said.
