     The budget deficit for the period, according to the Ministry of Finance, amounted to RUB2.56 trillion and is already approaching the annual target of RUB2.9 trillion as soon as by end-February. As compared to 2M22, the budget deficit soared almost six-fold from RUB415bn.
Russia’s budget revenue exceeded RUB5 trillion rubles in January–February, outperforming expectations and growing as compared with the same period of 2022, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov said in an interview to RT television channel broadcast late on March 3.
“I would like to say – no analyst has mentioned this information yet -- that February results show that we received more revenue in January–February than we received in January–February last year although our plans were more frugal for this year. That is why we are publishing these statistics now,” he said.
The budget received more than RUB5 trillion rubles of tax revenue in January–February, more than in the same period of 2022, and the Federal Treasury is distributing the revenue among different levels of the budget system now, he said.
In March 2023, Russia’s federal budget is expected to see a shortfall of RUB132.1bn ($1.75bn) in oil and gas revenues, according to preliminary estimates, the Finance Ministry revealed in a statement through its Telegram channel on Friday.
The volume of transfers from the Federal Tax Service of Russia to the consolidated budget of the Russian Federation at the end of 2022 increased by 18%, to 33.58 trillion rubles ($447.44bn), according to a statement on the agency’s website.
