Iran launches flights between Shiraz and Oman
Tehran-Dushanbe flights resume after two years
IRGC general appointed acting CEO of Iran Air
Flights between Shiraz, the capital of Iran’s Fars Province, and Muscat, the capital city of Oman, have been launched by Kish Air, local newspaper Donya Eqtesad reported on July 4.
Historically Persian Gulf Arabs have visited the southern Iranian city of Shiraz for medical tourism purposes due to the proximity and low cost of medical bills. Iranian doctors and hospitals have a large outreach programme with countries including Oman, United Arab Emirates and Kuwait with flights connecting to the city.
“The flights depart from Shiraz International Airport every Saturday at 9:30 a.m. and arrive at Muscat International Airport at 6:30 p.m.,” a local airport official from Fars Province, Gholamreza Karimi Aghaei, was quoted as saying by the news portal of the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development.
The flights, launched on July 2, are operated by Boeing planes, on lease or purchased by the company through second-hand markets internationally. Shiraz is also the largest city situated near the oil producing regions of the south and southwest of Iran, with many companies international and local basing their southern Iranian operations from there.
Currently, Salam Air, Oman Air, Qeshm Air and Airline Pars airlines operate 22 round-trip flights to Sohar and Muscat every week from Iranian destinations including Tehran and Mashhad, the two largest cities in the country.

Regular flights between the Iranian and Tajik capitals restarted last week following an agreement between Tehran and Dushanbe linked to the end-of-May official visit of Tajik President Emomali Rahmon to Iran. Tajikistan’s Somon Air was reportedly likely set to carry out flights between the two capitals.
A middle-ranking general of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has been appointed acting CEO of flagship carrier Iran Air, Press TV reported on April 25.
