4.5.2 Retail sector dynamics
Retail trade in Belarus increased by 10.1% to BYN17.2bn ($8.6bn)
year-on-year in January-May , according to the national statistics agency Belstat. Wholesale trade totalled increased by.3% y/y to BYN36.4bn in comparable prices in January-May, while one-day retail sales per capita made up BYN12 as against BYN10.3. Retail trade by trade companies accounted for 88.8% of the total and amounted to BYN15.3bn, up by 12.4% y/y in comparable prices. Trade by public catering facilities increased by 13.3% y/y to BYN955.2mn in comparable prices, BELTA news agency reported on June 18.
5.0 External Sector & Trade 5.1 External sector overview
In January-July 2018 Belarus' export of goods and services went up by 18.8% from the same period last year to reach $23.7bn, BelTA learned from the statistical data published on the website of the National Bank. The foreign trade in goods and services made up $47.1bn, up 20.1% from January-July 2017. The export totaled $23.7bn, the import exceeded $23.3bn (up 21.3%). Belarus' foreign trade surplus made up $403.3 mn. The foreign trade in goods soared 20.9% to $39.3bn. The export of goods went up by 19.3% to $18.8bn, the import increased by 22.3% to $20.4bn. The trade deficit made up $1.6bn (in January-July 2017 the trade deficit totaled $929.7 mn). The foreign trade in services reached $7.79bn (up 16.1% to January-July 2017). The export of services totaled $4.9bn (up 16.8%), the import - $2.89bn (up 15.1%). The trade surplus was at the level of $2bn (up 19.4% from January-July 2017).
Belarus' foreign trade deficit widened in January-July. The foreign trade in goods soared 20.9% y/y to $39.3bn , however, the trade deficit jumped to $1.6bn in the same period of the year vs $929.7mn in January-July 2017.
