GLNG
NEWS IN BRIEF
GLNG
from bunkering to gas fuel supply and engine operations, as well as troubleshooting. It provides realistic representation of the user interface for remote and local operating posts, as well as animated 3D visualisation
to facilitate situational awareness training. A ready prepared set of scenarios for tutorials and assessments is available as an additional option.
“As the move towards LNG fuel gathers pace in the marine industry, it is essential that crews are thoroughly and expertly trained
on handling the related systems. This new simulator is designed to raise training levels on LNG bunkering and supply systems, and will therefore also raise onboard safety levels,” says Sergey Tarasov, Solutions Manager, Wärtsilä Voyage Solutions.
The Wärtsilä LNG Bunkering & Fuel Supply System simulator is available as a one-off purchase or on an annual subscription basis. It is part of the successful TechSim 5000 product line, which includes various engine room and liquid cargo handling simulators that have been installed in training centres around the world. The LNGPac simulator enables a number of different configurations tailored to the customer’s needs.
Installations have been carried out at maritime academies and consulting facilities in Italy, Malaysia and Finland. The simulator can also be utilised for in-house training
by ship owners and ship management companies.

probunkers signs LoI with Hyundai for the construction of two LNG bunker vessels
of two firm units of 7,600 cubic metre LNG Bunker Vessels, signing a letter of intent (LoI) with the South Korean leading yard.
The signing of this LoI comes as the product of a long optimisation process
during which probunkers’ technical team reviewed more than 30 ship design proposals to serve the purpose of the project involving prestigious organisations such as the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), leading design, engineering and manufacturing companies, as well as experienced seafarers who have all followed the developments in the world of LNG as fuel.
“Having reached an initial agreement with HMD is a major milestone in our project that underlines our aim towards quality and reliability, cornerstones in probunkers’ philosophy, while at the same time demonstrates the confidence of all stakeholders in the success of our plan and the importance of it.”, probunkers’ CEO, Alexander Prokopakis commented.
Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (HMD) is part
of Hyundai Heavy Industries Group. Founded in 1975 has delivered more than 1000 ships since 1996 when the yard became involved in Shipbuilding. Having received awards such
as World’s Best Shipbuilding Yard 2001 by Lloyd’s List, HMD is classified among the most technologically advanced shipbuilding yards worldwide. HMD is also among the very few yards which can demonstrate experience in the new field of LNG bunker ship design and construction.

Head of Russian gas
LNG runner-up Novatek
Mikheslon sells €257mn
worth of shares
State-sponsored and the chairman of the
board of directors of Russia’s Novatek Leonid Mikhelson has sold 0.7375% of the personal shares in the company for €257mn, RBC business portal reported citing an information disclosure by the company.
In 2019 in Novatek maintained its position as Russia’s second-largest natural gas producer and global liquefied natural gas (LNG) runner-up.
It is believed that Mikhelson indirectly controls about 25% in Novatek.
After the company was allowed by the Kremlin to export LNG, it adopted an ambitious development plan and had its capitalisation soar, making Mikhelson Russia’s richest man according to Forbes with a $27bn fortune.
After the greenlight for LNG exports and other valuable concessions such as possible extraction on offshore shelf (off limits to private hydrocarbon companies) and softer terms on LNG transportation, Novatek was generally seen as in being in the Kremlin’s favour.
However, in the end of 2019 unconfirmed reports claimed that Novatek will be cut
off from the federal budget support for transportation of LNG via the Northern Sea Route for 2020.
Mikhelson reportedly pleaded directly with Russian President Vladimir Putin in November, arguing that the lack of state support puts the second LNG project Arctic LNG-2 at risk.
Reportedly, Novatek requested RUB124bn ($2bn) for the federal infrastructure, such as LNG handling terminals in Kamchatka and Murmansk, as well as Utrennny terminal, but has not been included in the 2020 federal budget draft. The only funding planned is RUB41bn ($662mn) in 2022.
