      Germany has increased the import of Russian oil through India by 1,100%. As Spiegel writes, against the backdrop of massive anti-Russian sanctions, Germany imports large volumes of Russian oil through India. Germany mainly imports oil from India, which is used to produce diesel fuel. India produces this product from crude oil, which the country has been buying in large quantities from Russia since the beginning of the war. Due to Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Germany stopped direct oil import from Russia. Western powers have also imposed a price cap on Russian oil, which they want to enforce internationally by using their market power in the shipping and insurance sectors.
India's imports of Russian oil fell in August to a seven-month low as refiners curbed purchases due to planned maintenance outages at some plants and lower discounts for Russian grades. However, oil imports from Saudi Arabia surged to a multi-month high, according to preliminary data from Kpler and Refinitiv trade flows. Refiners in India have been snapping up discounted Russian oil after some Western buyers shunned purchases over Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February last year.
Kazakhstan says it is tired of being treated as a second-class citizen at the International Atomic Energy Agency and is preparing to file a legal challenge to win a seat on the board, according to a statement dated August 18 circulated among diplomats. Kazakhstan is home to the IAEA's nuclear fuel bank, a facility supported by Warren Buffett. The country has also contributedmns of dollars in membership fees to the IAEA. However, despite these contributions, Kazakhstan finds itself among the 17 countries that have been excluded from the board. The former Soviet republic's demands will be presented at the next IAEA general conference in Vienna on September 25, and it is preparing a resolution aimed at correcting its disenfranchisement.
