    Russia's expenditure on the war during the 18 months of its full-scale invasion of Ukraine has reached approximately $167.3bn, according to a report by Forbes Ukraine in September.
The Kremlin has been allocating around $300mn each day towards the conflict with Ukraine. Russia's budget expenditures in the first half of this year exceeded its original 2023 budget allocation.
And Russia is now planning to double its military budget, exacerbating the challenge of retaining its military personnel, according to Forbes.
Direct military costs, along with the expenses associated with lost equipment incurred by the Russian Federation over the 18-month war period (from February 24, 2022, to August 24, 2023), total approximately $167.3bn.
Forbes arrived at this estimate through calculations based on data from Ukraine's General Staff of the Armed Forces. The figure excludes non-military defence expenditures and the economic losses experienced by the aggressor nation.
Key components of these expenditures include support for military operations ($51.3bn), military salaries ($35.1bn), compensation provided to the families of deceased ($25.6bn) and injured ($21bn) soldiers, and the cost associated with destroyed equipment ($34bn).
