driven by official loans to the government from Ukraine’s partners. While loans are given to cover the state budget deficit, they are also critical for keeping Ukraine’s external accounts in surplus.
5.2.1 Import/export dynamics
● Partners & regions
Ukraine plans to introduce several new agricultural products to the Chinese market. The Ukrainian-Chinese trade and economic cooperation subcommittee discussed the prospects of bringing new goods to the Chinese market by the end of the year, announced by the Ukrainian government. At the meeting, the parties discussed the necessary steps for mutual trade, especially the opening of new product positions for the export of Ukrainian goods, in particular honey, flour, fish products, poultry meat, peas, fresh blueberries, and livestock fodder. Today, more than 900 Ukrainian enterprises are allowed to export their products to China, including corn producers - 227 enterprises, milk and dairy products - 35, soybeans - 55, barley - 51, meal and pulp - 48, beef - 6 and frozen blueberries and blueberries – 10. As a result of the meeting, parties will prepare to sign protocols for exporting Ukrainian goods by the end of the year and the beginning of the exchange of experience between veterinary specialists in Ukraine and China.
● Products
Ukraine increased grain exports during the year, and several countries increase their imports. In the 2022/2023 marketing year, Ukraine exported 48.99mn tons of grain and leguminous crops, reported the Ministry of Agrarian Policy. As of June 30, Ukraine exported 16.836mn tons of wheat, 2.704mn tons of barley, 18,000 tons of rye, and 29.128mn tons of corn. During the previous marketing year, 2021/2022, Ukraine exported 48.355mn tons of cereals and legumes, including 18.72mn tons of wheat, 5.747mn tons of barley, 161,500 tons of rye, and 23.409mn tons of corn. Over the past marketing year, Romania increased its share of Ukrainian wheat exports from 0.5% to 15.8%, and the export value equivalent for the year increased from $26M to $500M. The wheat export to Spain rose from 0.8% to 14%, and volumes soared to 2.5mn tons. Turkey increased the import of wheat from 10 to 20%, barley from 19% to 23%, oats from 0 to 4%, and vegetable oil from 3.5% to 19%. China is also among the top five oil, corn, and barley buyers. Poland ranks fifth in the wheat buyers' ranking, eighth in barley, and seventh in corn.
