Orban rails against Ukraine, says Kyiv is 'light years' away from EU membership. At a Nov. 18 meeting of the Fidesz party, Hungary’s Viktor Orban focused part of his speech on the EU, railing against the "machinations of Brussels bureaucrats," the "invasion of migrants," "gender propaganda," "the illusions of war" and "Ukraine's ill-prepared membership in the EU."
The start of negotiations with Ukraine on joining the EU may be postponed to March. According to a high-ranking EU official familiar with the course of preparations, the December summit and Hungary's opposition could also hinder the negotiations.

Stoltenberg: Ukraine will become a NATO member after reforms are completed and the end of the war. Ukraine will become a member of NATO, but first, it must carry out reforms determined by the member states, said NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg before a meeting of the North Atlantic Council. He also added that it is too early to talk about the decisions that will be made regarding Ukraine at the Washington summit. "All allies agree that full membership is impossible during war," Stoltenberg said. He also reminded attendees about the help that the member states provide to Ukraine. In November, Germany and the Netherlands promised to allocate €10B to Ukraine. Romania added an F-16 training center for Ukrainian pilots. Ukraine’s allies, including the US and Finland, have sent more air defenses and ammunition. Stoltenberg also noted Ukraine's military achieved some results in the 2023 campaign, even though the front line barely moved. “The Ukrainians managed to inflict significant losses on the Russian invaders and managed to dislodge the Russian Black Sea Fleet from a large part of the Black Sea," the NATO Secretary General noted.
Stoltenberg: Ukraine's ability to implement reforms during war is impressive. “(Ukraine has) made concrete changes, not least in the fight against (corruption)," Nato Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said, adding that these steps help the country "to move closer to Nato membership."
Kuleba meets with Stoltenberg, discusses Euro-Atlantic defense industry.
