On the scale of our agro-industrial complex, this is a significantly large negative figure," Vysotskyi said. In his opinion, the problem can be solved only by improving logistics since optimizing export routes means higher prices on the domestic market.
Ukraine increased scrap metal exports by almost 300% in the current year. Ukrainian enterprises in January-October 2023 increased the export of ferrous scrap metal to 146,900 tons, which is 289% more compared to the same period last year, according to statistics from the State Customs Service. In monetary terms, the scrap export for the specified period amounted to $42M (a 10% increase). As for imports, there were none in the first two months of the year, and in March-October, Ukraine imported 898 tons of scrap worth $333,000 (51.95% from Slovakia, 22.82% from Poland, 8.41% from Estonia). Since metallurgical plants have been destroyed and steel production in the country has fallen significantly, the demand for scrap within the country is significantly lower than before the war. In addition, scrap prices in EU countries are twice as high. In 2022, Ukraine reduced the export of ferrous metal scrap by 91.5% compared to 2021 - to 53,557 tons. In monetary terms, exports decreased by 92% to $19.27M.
In October, Ukraine increased the export of dairy products by 17%, while prices in the domestic market are rising. In October 2023, Ukraine exported8,790 tons of dairy products worth $18.15M. Compared to September of this year, natural export volumes increased by 17%, and sales increased by 22.6%. It is noted that the main export categories in monetary terms were the following goods: milk and condensed cream - 23%; cheeses - 24%; butter - 15%. Significant volumes were exported to Moldova and EU member states. Meanwhile, in October 2023, the prices of most dairy products increased in Ukrainian supermarkets, except for the prices of some types of hard cheeses. In particular, pasteurized milk with a fat content of 2.5% costs ₴41.63 per kg, which is ₴1.18 (2.83%) more compared to the previous month and ₴7.29 (17.51%) more compared to last year's period.
In October, Ukraine increased the import of dairy products by almost 30%. In October, 6,080 tons of dairy products were imported into Ukraine, 27.8% more than in September and 35% more than in October 2022. It is noted that growth is recorded in all categories, but the largest import volume is occupied by cheeses - 3,200 tons. In addition, over the past month, butter imports have doubled to 619 tons, the highest figure since November 2021. In total, 48,890 tons of dairy products were imported in 10 months of 2023, which is 6.1% less than in the same period last year, but at the same time, the value indicator is 11.3% higher ($210.2M). As for export volumes, they remain stable for the second month in a row - 8,250 tons, which is the same indicator as last year. The value indicator decreased by 19% and is $226.94M.
