Russia's largest electronics retailer ​M.Video-Eldorado​ has teamed up with Russian Post on the delivery and distribution of online orders, increasing its geographical reach by over 300 cities, Reuters reported on May 27. As reported by ​bne IntelliNews​, previously in 2019 M.Video’s top line was under pressure, but it still managed to beat the market in 1H19. The retailer posted consolidated revenue decline​ of 3% year on year to RUB115bn ($1.62bn), with like-for-like sales down 9.7% in 4Q19 after a 9.9% decline seen in 3Q19. The delivery programme is currently being tested in Moscow, the Moscow region, Kazan and Novosibirsk, and is planned to be launched in Ekaterinburg, Sverdlovsk, Nizhny Novgorod and Nizhegorod regions.
Russia's second-largest retailer​ ​Magnit​ started testing grocery delivery in Moscow with Yandex.Lavka, ​the delivery service of Russian internet major Yandex​, t​ he company reported i May 20. In the meantime, traditional retailer ​X5 Retail Group has fast emerged as the largest e-grocer​, with its Magnit rival trying to ​catch up with its digital transformation​ and ​testing delivery solutions​. Now Magnit also started sourcing supplies for dark stores of Yandex.Lavka in two Moscow districts. Magnit doesn't have its own online sales platform, while X5's Perekrestok.ru and the said this week it would accelerate the roll-out of its online express delivery service Perekrestok.Express to 46 supermarkets, up from the current nine, to ​cover the whole of the Russian capital​.
O2O Holding, the foodtech and transportation joint venture of​ ​Sberbank and​ ​Mail.ru Group​, has invested in Kuhnya na Rayone ​(Neighborhood Kitchen) startup of Oleg Kozyrev and Alexei Kolesnikov, ​Vedomosti d​ aily reported on May 13. O2O Holding was set up in the end of 2019, as ​Sberbank was turning away from MRG's main rival Yandex​. The joint venture has recently ​reinforced its management team​. O2O unites the foodtech and transportation assets, such as Delivery Club, Sbermarket, Sberfood, YouDrive, Citimobil and others. The amount of the deal is undisclosed. The company was founded in 2018 and specialises on ready meals delivery at under 30 minutes. Previous investors included the cofounder of Qiwi electronic payment system Sergei Solonin, PIK Investproyekt of major real estate developer PIK, and others.
