Since the beginning of the year, Ukraine has reduced coal imports by almost 300%. In January-July 2022, Ukraine reduced the import of hard coal and anthracite by 2.7 times (by 7.37 million tons) compared to the same period in 2021, to 4.31 million tons. According to the State Customs Service, the state bought $1.03B worth of coal in monetary terms, which is 11.5% less than in January-July 2021 ($1.16B). $420.59M worth of coal came from the Russian Federation (40.92% import share), $277.97M (27.05%) from the US, $100.24M (9.76%) from Australia,$100.24M (9.76%), and from other countries, $228.67M (22.26%). Exports of coal by Ukraine for the seven months of 2022 amounted to 450,600 tons for $145.92M. These exports were to Slovakia $93.35M, Poland for $34.08M, Hungary for $15.92M, and other countries for $2.57M.
The Ukrainian Parliament introduced a visa-free customs agreement with the EU. The parliament adopted the law on Customs Visa Exemption. It provides for the accession of Ukraine to the Convention on the Procedure of Common Transit with the European Union (NCTS) countries, said Deputy Chairman of the Finance Committee Yaroslav Zhelezniak. Customs Visa Free will allow Ukrainian businesses to take advantage of the following simplifications:
● One transit declaration and one guarantee for moving goods between 36 countries (with EU countries and Great Britain, Turkey, Serbia, North Macedonia, Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein, and Switzerland).
● Authorised enterprises will be able to send and receive goods at their enterprise rather than having to go to customs terminals.
● Ukrainian financial guarantees will operate in another 35 countries of the world
Ukrainian exporters are most interested in five foreign markets. Ukrainian manufacturers are most interested in exporting their products to the markets of five countries: Poland, Germany, the USA, France, and Romania, stated Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba. As of August, 156 exporting companies registered in the NAZOVNI platform sent almost 700 applications for export requests. The five countries with the most interest to exporters are Poland - 42 applications, Germany - 38 applications, the USA - 35 applications, France - 24 applications, and Romania - 24 applications. Also, 110 applications for market analysis were received from companies that currently do not know exactly where they should export their products. The NAZOVNI service team analyzes potential markets for applicants and provides recommendations and action plans. NAZOVNI is a Ukrainian business globalisation service that promotes goods and services abroad with the assistance of Ukrainian diplomatic institutions.
Before the grain corridor opened, Ukraine exported 2.7 million tons of grain. According to Ukrainian Club of Agrarian Business director Roman Slastyon, the downside of this number is the very expensive logistics of land transportation due to the seaport’s blockage. As a result of these higher costs, agricultural producers received only a third of the price paid for the grain. Slastvon added that there is currently a positive trend in product export through the grain corridor. “Now we see that in the first two weeks, 16 ships
