(69%) believe it was worth the cost, while only 38% of Republicans share this view.
The survey also highlights disparities in views regarding seeking peace and providing ongoing support. Two thirds (66%) of Republican supporters believe the US should encourage Ukraine to seek peace as soon as possible, even at the cost of territory, whereas only 35% of Democrats share this opinion. Conversely, 62% of Democrats believe Washington should support Ukraine for as long as necessary, even if it results in higher gas or food prices, compared to 30% of Republicans.
Despite this divide, the United States has been a leader in allied efforts to support Ukraine in its struggle against Russian aggression. However, opposition from hardline elements within the Republican Party has raised uncertainty about the future of this support, just as Ukraine seeks additional aid for its ongoing counteroffensive.
Although the recent spending legislation passed by Congress to avert a government shutdown did not include aid for Ukraine, Democrats have called for separate legislation to provide funds to Kyiv. The White House remains confident that Ukraine funding will receive support from both Democrats and the majority of Republicans, with opposition primarily coming from a small radical right-wing faction.
Ukraine's population has fallen to 23mn people from the pre-war official estimate of 45mn, according to former Prime Minister Nikolay Azarov, reports Tass. Azarov noted that out of this number, only 3.5mn Ukrainians are capable of participating in military operations, as the country faces a growing exodus of working-age individuals. The Ukrainian Institute for the Future reported earlier in June that the country's population had already dwindled to 29mn, accompanied by a sharp decline in the birth rate, which is now half of what is required to maintain the population at previous levels after the replacement ratio fell to 1.2.
Military is Ukraine's most trusted institution. Around 93% of Ukrainians have trust in the Armed Forces, making it the most trusted institution in the country, followed by volunteer armed units (85%) and other volunteer organizations (84%), according to a survey by the Razumkov Center published on Oct. 11.
Almost half of Ukrainian citizens believe that events in the country are
developing in the right direction, however, fewer people share this opinion
compared to February-March of this year, according to a survey conducted by
the sociological service of the Razumkov Center, which was presented at the
Interfax-Ukraine News Agency on October 11.
Some 77% of respondents believe that it is important for them that
Ukraine becomes a member of the European Union, of which 51% claim
that it is essential for them, Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) said
based on the results of a survey conducted on September 4 to 20.
