His travels in Greece suggest
to Vanni the element he had long sought to express the dichotomy that had been missing in his latest works. The plasters observed on the houses of the Cyclades in their materiality are the ideal counterpoint to the fluidity of the forms he was developing. These in turn are characterized more and more markedly as reflections on the surface of the sea fixed in a moment of their continuous mutability. On these ideas Vanni developed the series of Greek paintings. This work is one of the first to be produced, but it already demonstrates the achievement of the new compositional balance in which the allusion
