School NEWS (Cont.) 6 Padua to Celebrate 60th Anniversary
th
This August, Padua will celebrate its 60th year. Since opening her doors in 1961, Padua has provided over 12,500 alumni with an incredible academic experience in a truly Franciscan environment. Over the years, people transformed us along the way: Friars like Chambers, Baum, DiCicco, Smith, Edminston, Haag, DaCorte, and Carroll have molded who we are today. Teachers and coaches who nurtured us to be our best will always be remembered: Urhin, Kohuth, Mayer, Kaniecki, Gathers, Lorz, Stasek, Cohen, Priefer, Heinrich, Bazzichi, Pizon, Flachbart, Novak, Miller, Jennrich, Ciolek, Lupica, Lantz, Giulivo, Leigh, Plasterer, Stec, Horton, Clark, and Boynar. We owe them, and all our teachers, our thanks and “unending loyalty.”
Over the years, through renovations and change, every Bruin has had a little different pathway to walk. Libraries became chapels, and chapels became biology labs. Grass football fields and cinder tracks were moved and replaced with turf and rubberized surfaces. The rifle range turned into a wrestling room, and then into a state-of-the-art weight room. New entrances have been added and the friars’ residence on the third floor is now our Media Center.
Whether you remember the school as all-boys or coed, a part of the Crown Conference or the North Coast League, the history of Padua is strong in the hearts and minds of the Bruins. State championships, homecoming floats and monster bonfires, double decker dances with nationally-known bands, socials in the cafeteria after football games, Olympic Day lip syncs, and the always impactful Christmas for Others charity drive all played a part in who we are today.
Through it all, the Franciscan spirit has remained the same and the cookies are still mostly raw. What an incredible journey we have been on. The legacy of Padua Franciscan has indeed changed our world in holiness and learning. In just 60 short years, the Bruins have impacted the four corners of our world. And just think, as school years go, Padua is just reaching her stride. Happy Anniversary Padua! Let’s start the celebration! Anyone need a pool pass?
