Mr. Anthony Kenney ’71
Anthony Kenney, Padua Franciscan High School class of 1971, grew up in Parma Heights and attended St. Bridget of Kildare School. Earning a BS in Accounting from Miami University in 1976, Mr. Kenney took a position following graduation with Marathon Petroleum Corporation as an entry-level accountant, and he worked his way up from finance and IT through business development.
He devoted over 40 years to the company, serving in various roles and positions: Production and International Accounting; Division Controller; Vice-President of Finance; Controller and Treasurer.
In 1990, he transitioned to Emro Marketing Company, the predecessor to Speedway LLC. From 1998 through 2000, he served as Vice-President of Finance and ITS for Speedway, and in 2001, he was named Vice-President of Business Development for Marathon Ashland Petroleum LLC. In August 2005, Mr. Kenney was named President of Speedway SuperAmerica LLC. He served as President until his retirement in 2020. Under his leadership, Speedway expanded from a Midwest-only brand to comprise nearly 4,000 stores in over 36 states with over 35,000 employees.
Never one to rest for long, Mr. Kenney has spent his retirement forming a new, public enterprise: Recharge Acquisition Corporation, a special-purpose acquisition company. He also devotes time as a member of the Board of Trustees for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and serves on the Board of Directors of the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce. He is also a Board and Executive Committee member of NACS – the Association for Convenience & Fuel Retailing as well as a Dayton Children’s Foundation Board member.
Mr. Kenney resides in Springfield, Ohio, with his wife of over 35 years, Jean. They love to spend time with their two grown sons and four grandchildren.
