Alumni Spotlight: Kathy Golovan ’87
Medical Mutual’s Chief Health Officer and Executive Vice President
If you were to ask Kathy (Rose) Golovan ’87 what inspires her success in her daily life, she will most likely say that it’s not just one thing, but rather
a series of paths she followed and decisions she made that all started at Padua Franciscan High School. As a student, Kathy was very involved in Key Club, the student group that leads the annual Christmas for Others (CFO) fundraising initiative for those less fortunate in the Cleveland community. The simple act of delivering food baskets to families during CFO taught Kathy that she wanted her life’s work to focus on serving others. Kathy understood the importance of giving back, a lesson she and
her husband, Dan, are teaching their four children. “Finding the right partner in Dan is key to helping me balance the day to day of family and career.”
After graduating from Padua, Kathy attended the College of Wooster where she obtained a B.A. in psychology and economics, and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She earned her juris doctorate from Case Western Reserve University, is a licensed attorney and a certified internal auditor.
One of the ways Kathy serves others is through her community involvement. “What you give your time to can impact one person, or an entire community. If you want to get involved in something, just ask how you can help.”
Kathy is a graduate of Leadership Cleveland and Cleveland Bridge Builders. She was named to Crain’s 40 under 40 in 2005 and a Woman Worth Watching by Diversity Magazine in 2012. In 2015, Kathy was named a Crain’s CIO of the Year and received the Ohio Diversity Council’s Most Powerful and Influential Woman Award. In 2016 she was named a Smart Business 50 award winner.
She has held board positions at New Life Community and the Old Stone Foundation. Currently, she is a member of the Visiting Committee of the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing CWRU, Ernst & Young Alumni Council and a board member of Business Volunteers Unlimited. She is also a former board member of Westfield Bank and is the chair of its audit committee.
In her career, volunteering and family, Kathy continues to find great satisfaction in serving others...and it all started at Padua.
