Athletic Hall of Fame Induction
Congratulations to Padua’s 2022 Athletic Hall of Fame Inductees!
On Friday, March 4, 2022 we gathered to celebrate Padua’s Athletic Hall of Fame Inductees in the Padua Gymnasium.
The awards were given to Bruins who either excelled in one or more sports while at Padua or who made a major impact on
the school’s athletic program or local sports, enhancing Padua’s image. We congratulate these incredible Bruins on being named Padua Franciscan Hall of Fame 2022 Inductees.
A special thanks to our master of ceremonies, Chuck Priefer, former Padua teacher and coach.
Moving forward, this will be an annual event that is celebrated during Homecoming Week.
Michael Buck ’68
Michael Buck ’68 steered the Padua Football team to its first winning season in school history in 1968 when he led the team in rushing and touchdowns, earning Crown Conference and Plain Dealer honors. After graduation, Michael was a position coach and defensive coordinator for Padua’s
Football team for 22 years, where he worked under Head Coach Tom Kohuth.
Mike Campo ’75
Mike Campo ’75 was a four-year starter for the Hockey team, which won three league titles during his career, topped off with a game-winning goal in overtime to win the Baron Cup in 1975. Mike was named an All-Scholastic player in Football and Hockey during his senior year. He was the first
running back in school history to rush for over 1,000 yards in a season, earning AP All-Ohio honors.
Tom Compernolle ’83
Tom Compernolle ’83 led the Bruins Football team in receiving yards in 1982, helping the Bruins earn an 8-2 record. Tom also anchored the defense for the Hockey team during his junior and senior seasons. He had 47 points from the blue line his senior year, leading the team to the State Final Four. Tom went on to
play college football at Ohio University where he led the team in receiving for three seasons.
Henry Durica ’87
Henry Durica ’87 was the NCL Football MVP in 1986 when he led the Bruins to a 9-1 record and league title. He is currently tied for 3rd most touchdown passes in school history. In Basketball, Henry is 4th in career assists and led the Bruins in rebounding (junior, senior) and assists (senior). He went on to John
Carroll University where he was a wide receiver for the football team and led the team in receptions during his career, which included NCAA Division III playoff appearances.
Cindy Shumaker ’90
Cindy Shumaker ’90 was a member of Padua’s District Champion Girls Basketball teams
in 1989 and 1990. After being a key player during her high school career, Cindy went on to great success at John Carroll University. There, she was all-conference for all four years of her career, earning 1st team honors in ’93
and ’94. Cindy held eight school records upon graduation with 1,535 career points, 867 career rebounds and 163 career blocks. She was three-time team MVP and also lettered in Softball.
