 Diving In India
India has a long coastline of about 7500 km and is also blessed with many magnificent water bodies both of which are widely unexplored. These waters are home to some of the most eye- catching and breath-taking dive des3na3ons in the world. Although diving is a budding industry in India, the race to its becoming one of the top diving des3na3ons in the world is already in the making. Scuba diving in India is forecasted to become a million-dollar industry very soon.
Several new diving areas are popping up throughout the country. Apart from the favorite dive des3na3ons such as Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Netrani islands (Murudeshwar), Goa, Dwaraka (Gujarat), Tarkarli and Malvan (Maharashtra), and Pondicherry, new dive centers are popping up at some as yet less common loca3ons such as Vishakhapatnam, Kovalam (Kerala), Mahabalipuram and Chennai.
The discovery of 2 shipwrecks (circa 2018) off the coast of Vizag shows us just a glimpse of the fantas3c treasures hidden deep inside the waters. Many explora3ons are being undertaken to discover new dive sites.
Although the divers frequen3ng India's dive opera3ons are primarily Indian na3onals, people from all over the world have started flocking to India not only to tour the bustling ci3es like Delhi or Mumbai but to dive in these waters and get a life3me experience of the fantas3c underwater world.
Lots of marine conserva3on programs are also happening simultaneously along with scuba diving ac3vity. Some of the well-known marine conserva3on organisa3ons such as Reef Watch and In Season Fish are doing a remarkable job by educa3ng people and spreading awareness about the need to conserve the delicate marine life. Organiza3ons such as Temple Reef Founda3on are also educa3ng people about the need to build ar3ficial reefs. Dakshin, Reef Watch and Bombay Natural History Society are very old and established organisa3ons which also carry out research ac3vi3es along with conserva3on and awareness programs.
There are mul3ple op3ons for people looking forward to diving in India. Not only can they do a recrea3onal dive but can also take up cer3fica3on courses which will enable them to dive on their own anywhere in the world.
