Southern Delaware Heritage Trail
302-856-1818 or 800-357-1818 www.visitsoutherndelaware.com
This remarkable trail connects rivers, scenic drives, local heritage and historic sites, country inns, bed and breakfasts, motels, and antiquing. The loop trail is marked by signs, which connect several historic towns west of Delaware’s beach resorts. The trail route provides 130 miles of connecting trails for cyclists and more than 70 miles of scenic country roads for motorists who like to venture off the beaten path.
The Heritage Trail includes several bodies of fresh water including the pristine Nanticoke River—a tributary of the Chesapeake Bay, which flows gracefully past the towns of Seaford, Laurel, and Delmar. Many of these towns are well-known
for their shipbuilding or railroading history and important links to the waterways. An abundance
of freshwater lakes and ponds await the angler or canoeing enthusiast.
Whether it’s dining, shopping, looking at Victorian and Colonial architecture, bird watching, delving into the area’s history or a Sunday drive or cycling adventure—there is so much to see and do along the Trail, you’ll want to spend the night. There
are a number of fine motels and quaint bed and breakfast inns along the route to accommodate you!
Hiking–Many of the trails may also be enjoyed by canoeing and/or cycling.
