parks, playgrounds, sports leagues, and clubs. There are many advantages to going out and enjoying these community-provided sites, such as health, environmental, community, and economic benefits. Over 4,000 acres of land make up the park and recreation areas with beautiful views of the Neuse and Trent Rivers along with an array of amenities, for example disc golf, shelters, boat slips, park benches, and more. Many of New Bern’s annual community events are hosted by the department, particularly the Annual Coastal Christmas Flotilla and the
4th of July Celebration. The sports leagues
and clubs include events such as church coed
softball, coed volleyball, adult flag football,
youth football, youth basketball, and summer
league basketball. New Bern Parks and
Recreation has played a major part in making
new Bern the exciting town it is today.
