CENTRAL NORTH ISLAND
Departing Wellington, this is our last tour of 2021. We spend this last night in Greytown where you have the opportunity for Christmas shopping along with enjoying an exquisite celebratory end of year dinner. If you’ve been on any of our previous Girls on the Road Again tours, please come and be with us on the last night and be part of our festive celebrations.
The highlight this tour will be staying at Blue Duck Station, located in the Ruapehu District on the banks of the Whanganui and Retaruke Rivers, and surrou- nded by Whanganui National Park. As seen on Country Calendar, we will also learn about the station’s core values around conserving endangered wildlife, increase the health of native bush and rivers as well as preserving the history of the area. For the photographers amongst us this is a dream location. You'll have the opportunity to 4WD to the top of one the highest peaks on the station to capture awesome sunrises. Another highlight will be the scenic jetboat ride, where Blue Duck Station's knowledgable guides will provide us commentary on the local landscape, history, flora and fauna of the area.
Stopping off for a night or two at The Chateau Tongariro, why not enjoy a cup of hot chocolate or glass of wine. For those early risers we drive to The Bruce to capture images of the sun rising across the Central Plateau region. While at The Chateau Tongario why not take the beautiful 2 1/2 hour Silica Rapids walk. Thankfully, our driver will pick us up at the end to save walking the 2.5 km back.
Having morning tea at the National Park train station is an amazing experience.
Before we head to the Waira- rapa, we are hosted for morning tea and a tour of a beautiful local garden in the Turangi district.
