COURT TV’S JULIE GRANT JOINS CRISIS CENTER NORTH’S
CPAWS FOR EMPOWERMENT ADVISORY BOARD
The mission of Crisis Center North is to empower victims of domestic violence and cultivate community attitudes and behaviors that break the cycle of violence.
risis Center North is pleased to announce the newest member of their PAWS FOR EMPOWERMENT
Advisory Board, Julie Grant.
Ms. Grant is an award-winning journalist (including work as a reporter and anchor on KDKA Pittsburgh), current host on Court TV, and previously served as Assistant District Attorney for Allegheny County, PA.
“To me, PAWS FOR EMPOWERMENT is about three critical things: helping, healing and hoping. It involves helping domestic violence survivors with advocacy both inside and outside of the courtroom, healing them through counseling and education, and giving them renewed hope in breaking the cycle of abuse and living the healthy life they deserve,” Julie Grant stated. “I am honored to join Crisis Center North’s PAWS FOR EMPOWERMENT Advisory Board and look forward to helping continue the program’s life-changing work in supporting domestic violence survivors and breaking the cycle of abuse,” she furthered.
First established in 2011 in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) to provide animal assisted therapy, the PAWS FOR EMPOWERMENT program is an innovative, award-winning, and nationally recognized victim services program
developed by Crisis Center North. Like Ms. Grant, the PAWS program and its canine advocates Penny and Ari are no strangers to the courthouse: In 2013, the program expanded to provide canine advocacy services for victims of domestic violence in the Allegheny County court system.
The PAWS FOR EMPOWERMENT Advisory Board, formed in 2016, is comprised of professionals from across the United States to provide expert resources, guidance, and enhanced awareness for the critical work that canine advocates, Penny and Ari, provide to domestic violence victims. Julie Grant joins fellow esteemed advisory board members, including Dr. Aubrey Fine, Dr. Donna Imhoff, Dora E. McQuaid, Atiya Abdelmalik, and Lynn Shiner.
