A NEW BRAND:
THE UNIVERSAL EXPERIENCE
The Universal Experience was born from my perso- nal reflection on tourism nowadsys. After a long re- search and analysis in the field, I realised how, most of the tourists visit a place only because it is famous, without inquiring about the culture and heritage of a specific country or city. Disinformation is unfortu- nately widespread in tourists. That is, the tourist who visits a monument does not get much information on its history. So I created an experiment, which aims, through sarcasm, to sensitise tourists on the topic and get more informed. I pretended to be a tour guide in front of two iconic monuments in London (Mar- ble Arch and Buckingham Palace) and offered free guided tours to the tourists I met. Instead of giving truthful information about the monuments I gave fal- se information: all the tourists believed every word I said, just because I was dressed as a tour guide. This demonstrated the lack of information in touri- sts visiting two of London’s most iconic monuments. I therefore created fake postcards, where the fake explanation I gave to the tourists was written on the back, which I distributed at the exhibition UAL orga- nised for the end of the Master in December 2019.
