Air traffic control asked Frederick to identify the aircraft.
His response was chilling: “It isn’t an aircraft.” Then they heard awful metal scraping sounds over the radio before it went dead. Frederick was never seen again, and no sign of his plane was ever found.
That same evening, close to the path of Frederick’s plane, Roy Manifold was taking pictures of an amazing sunset. Some people claim that one of his photographs might explain
what happened. It appears to show an unidentified flying object bursting out of the sea into the sky. And that night there were other reports of a UFO with green lights zig- zagging across the sky.
FREDericK VALEnTiCH
Young Australian Frederick Valentich was desperate to become a professional pilot. On 21 October 1978 he set off on a solo training flight, flying from Melbourne to King Island in Tasmania.
Just minutes after take-off, he sent a radio message
to air traffic control saying he was being followed by something flying about 300 metres above him. There was something odd about the way it flew – it was shiny, and he could see four bright lights on it.
Had Frederick been abducted by aliens? Or was there a simpler explanation?
Frederick had found training to be a pilot very difficult. He had failed some flying exams and had little experience of flying at night. It’s possible he became disorientated and crashed. Then what about the four bright lights? On a clear evening it’s not uncommon to see stars and planets shining. It’s possible the lights Frederick saw were Venus, Mars and Mercury, along with Antares, one of the brightest stars in the sky.
Was it a tragic accident or was Frederick abducted by aliens? We may never know the truth for sure .
