About ancient Rome
Ancient Rome was founded over 2,700 years ago! Starting off as a small town built on the banks of the River Tiber, Rome grew into a large city filled with people called Romans. The Romans set out to conquer the lands around them and eventually became leaders of a massive empire, with Rome at the centre. From fighting to feasting to how they raced chariots – today we know lots about how the ancient Romans lived because of the objects that they left behind.
