Sage led the smaller unicorns out from the stage wings. They followed him down a ramp. They were different heights and colours and they were all gorgeous, but Sophia’s eyes kept coming back to the unicorn with the rainbow mane and tail.
Ms Primrose called out the name of the first student and unicorn. “Valentina de Silva and ... Golden Briar.”
A haughty unicorn with a gold mane trotted daintily to Valentina’s side, then stopped and breathed into her outstretched hands. Valentina gave the watching students a superior look. “Thank you, Ms Primrose,” she said grandly. “My parents said you’d give me the best unicorn.”
Ms Primrose looked at Valentina with wise blue eyes. “You have the best unicorn for you, my dear – just like everyone else will.”
