Number of people executed during the French Revolution:
As a direct result of the French Revolution, a document was produced called A Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen. This was the first declaration in the world to set out ideas about human dignity, rights and equality.
The guillotine was a fearsome death machine that dropped
a blade upon the neck of a prisoner to cut off their head. All men and women, from common thieves to the monarchy, were sentenced to death by guillotine during the revolution. Using the same method of execution for rich and poor alike was supposed to symbolise that all people were equal.
