   OUTDOOR Living
Pots, tubs, and half barrels overflowing with flowers add appeal to any garden, but container gardening can serve a practical purpose too. Container gardening is ideal for those with little or no garden space. In addition to growing flowers, gardeners limited to a balcony, small yard, or only a patch of sun on their driveway can produce a wide variety of vegetable crops in containers. Basil, chives, thyme, and other herbs also are quite happy growing in pots, which can be set in a convenient spot right outside the kitchen door. Container
gardening also adds versatility to gardens large and small. Plants lend instant color, provide a focal point in the garden, or tie in the architecture of the house to the garden. Place them on the ground or on a pedestal, mount them on a windowsill, or hang them from your porch. A pair of matching containers on either side of the front walk serves as a welcoming decoration, while container gardening on a deck or patio can add color and ambiance to such outdoor sitting areas.
You can use single, large containers for outdoor decoration, but also consider arranging groups of pots, both small and large, on stairways, terraces, or anywhere in the garden. Clusters of pots can contain a collection of favorite plants, herbs or vegetables.
LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION
Most vegetable plants like lots of sun, so it’s important to site your containers where they will receive at least 6 hours of direct light a day. South or west facing locations are the best. Place them as close to your house as you can for easy access to your plants. This will also offer some shelter from drying winds.
WATERING
Watering is the number one priority for containers as the plants won’t have access to moisture below ground. On a hot sunny day they can dry out within hours and plants might not recover from serious wilting. Site containers as close to a water source as you can to make this an easy job. On hot days

DIY PROJECT
When it comes to remodeling we always try to do it on a tight budget. Our motto is to think outside the box, reuse, recycle and repurpose. Using old things in creative new ways and reusing our old building supplies in other projects is a great money saver! Our recent project came to us quite unexpectedly... and when opportunities like this present themselves you have to take advantage of them!
We came across someone selling a shed. It was a 10x20 shed and they were selling it at a fraction of the cost of a new one. This shed was essentially new itself... the problem is that the owner did not check with his local HOA and it did not allow the addition of a shed on his property. We were not looking for a shed, we didn’t really need a shed but we did eventually want to build a small pool house on our property and we couldn’t pass up this opportunity to make that dream happen. Our first go to was YouTube. I looked up every shed renovation idea possible. We had no idea what to do with the space and needed some ideas on a tight budget! Our thought was at first to have a changing area by the pool, then as we did some additional research we decided to include a small fridge for beverages and a TV and lounge area. We didn’t want our pool house to look like a shed so we decided to change out the standard shed door with a set of french doors.
FIrst things first though... We needed to get it put back together!
Our first step was putting each numbered panel back together, caulking all the seams to weather proof it and get a roof on it. Because this was a used shed and had been cut apart, we needed to take exrtra precautions to make sure it was watertight when reassembled.
Next we installed the french doors, electrical for the beverage center, lighting, television, and eventually a composting toilet . We included an exterior plug for our pool sweep when in use.
Once we had the electrical in place it was time to insulate and lay the sheetrock. We came up with a few different ideas for creating a changing area, a lounge area, storage, and a beverage center. Stay tuned in our next edition to see how we finished off the inside as well as the exterior landscaping.

ENTERTAINING
One of the many pleasures of summer is the ability to eat outdoors. From mid-morning brunches to late-night s’mores around the fire, any time you take the feast outside is sure to be a good time! Since grilling is an essential way to cook during the warm months, we think a summer BBQ or cook-out should be next on your list!
Planning a fun BBQ provides SO many options. A fun little twist for summer is a grilled mexican fiesta. It’s perfect for the summer heat and who doesn’t love tacos and margaritas on a hot day???
My family loves this chicken taco recipe and it’s so easy! SOME TIPS FOR THIS RECIPE
GRILL WITH CHICKEN THIGHS
I like using chicken thighs because they’re a little more forgiving on the grill–they are super flavorful and don’t dry out as easily as chicken breasts. That said, you can definitely use chicken breasts for this recipe, just be careful not to cook them too long.
LET THE MEAT REST
Whatever cut of chicken you decide to use, let the meat REST for a few minutes before chopping it up. This is super important in allowing the meat to absorb all of the yummy juices before you cut into it. (The same goes for pretty much any other meat/steak you cook).
FOR THE TORTILLAS
Corn tortillas are the BEST to use for these chicken street tacos. I love these mini corn tortillas that are specifically intended for street tacos, but you can use regular corn tortillas instead. I usually heat my corn tortillas on a griddle or skillet for a few minutes on each side. You could even throw them directly on the grill for a few seconds.
FRESH PICO DE GALLO IS A MUST!
As with most tacos, the toppings are a key part of the awesomeness, and this homemade pico de gallo is the perfect accompaniment to these! It’s incredibly easy to make yourself, or you can even buy a small container from the grocery store (usually in the produce section). As a last resort you can substitute regular salsa, but these really are soooo good with fresh pico.
