How Dear is Life: Poetry, Conflict
and the First World War
Experience Barnsley Learning Lab Saturday 10 November
11.30am - 2.30pm
In 2014 poet and author Steve Ely was one of four poets commissioned by the Poetry Society to write a response to the First World War on the occasion of its centenary.
Ely’s response, How Dear Is Life, takes its title from Henry Williamson’s vivid, touching and neglected autobiographical account of life in the trenches.
At this event Ely will read the whole of ‘How Dear Is Life’ for the first time and then lead a
poetry workshop in which participants are invited to
write about warfare and conflict.
Please bring your own refreshments. Booking essential,
