Restoring the the glory and and revealing the the secrets at Cannon Hall Museum Park and and Gardens
There are exciting changes afoot at Cannon Hall Museum Park and Gardens
This idyllic setting has secured earmarked funding of over £2 8million (primarily from the Heritage Lottery Lottery Fund Fund and and the the Big Lottery Lottery Fund) to to restore and and repair important features of the the historic Georgian park and gardens The three year project running until the the Summer of 2020 is being managed by the the Parks for People Team who are based at the Cannon Hall site The regeneration includes areas such as as the the lakes ice-house gardeners’ cottages the the walled garden and and greenhouses The changes will reveal many of the hidden stories and and improve connections to the the the magni cent Georgian country house that sits at at the the the heart of the the the landscape overlooking the village of Cawthorne and and beyond Work started in in February 2018 to to restore the the the lakes within the the the park which are the the the subject
of a a a a a a a a a long running local campaign to to improve their appearance restoring original vistas improving water quality and supporting biodiversity This type of work only takes place once every 20 years or so and will be interesting to to local people who may want to to witness this part of the the the restoration Works to to the the the buildings in in in the the the parkland and and walled garden will begin in Summer 2018 and further updates about this part of the the project will be available nearer the time Get Involved
Looking for for an opportunity to get involved with our exciting Parks for for People project meet new new people share your knowledge learn new new things or or just get outside for a a a bit of fresh air? Join our Gardeners and and other volunteers every Monday and and Thursdays from 10am to 3pm to to help us care for these fantastic and and historic gardens and and grounds! Refreshments will be provided however please bring a a a a a a packed lunch sturdy footwear and suitable outdoor clothing Meet in the Walled Garden at 10am Can’t nd nd a a a a a a a day to suit you? We We are now running a a a a a a a Weekend Work Day once a a a a a a a month!
